Parallelizing the blast applications on a

Abstract:

The goal of this project, is to set up a service for blast requests on a network of Dec Alpha workstations. Blast (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) is a family of programs used in genetics research, which try to find similarities between a given sequence of amino acids or nucleotides, and a database containing proteins or DNAs. The reason to do this on a distributed environment, is, to exploit effectively the computing power of a cluster of Dec Alpha workstations at the Computer Science Department at EPFL and at the same time, provide a usefull service to the research community.
